Langerhans cells closely associated with Thy-1-positive dendritic cells in the stratified squamous mucosal epithelium of mice.

چکیده
An immunohistochemical study was carried out on two types of dendritic immune cells, Langerhans cells and Thy-1-positive cells, in the epithelium of the forestomach of 1-, 2-, 3-, 4- and 8-week-old mice. Investigation focused on how both types of cells were distributed and might interact in the mucosal epithelium. Langerhans cells and Thy-1-positive dendritic cells appeared in mucosal epithelium at 3 weeks of age, while in the epidermis they were first observed just after birth. In contrast with the epidermal Thy-1-positive cells, mucosal Thy-1-positive cells were closely associated with Langerhans cells. Electron microscopy also confirmed that two types of immune cells interact directly in the stratified squamous mucosal epithelium of mice.

Langerhans cells in the developing mucosal epithelium of mice.
The presence of Langerhans cells in the developing mucosal epithelium of mice was investigated by ATPase histochemistry and by electron microscopy. In the stratified squamous epithelium of the tongue and forestomach, a few ATPase-positive Langerhans cells could be recognized at 1 or 2 weeks after birth. They increased in number by 3 weeks of age, but the density was lower than that in the epide...
متن کاملLangerhans Cells Pathophysiology- An Overview
In 1868, Paul Langerhans first described langerhans cell, they are dendritically shaped cells, which were located in epidermis of the squamous epithelia. Langerhans cells are seen in all suprabasal layer of stratified squamous epithelium. They play a vital role in local defense mechanisms in the epithelium. They are bone marrow derived dendritic cell and act as antigen presenting cells (APCs) o...
متن کاملLangerhans Cells in Skin Lesions of Leprosy
Background: Langerhans cells are important in the pathogenesis of leprosy. A recent study reported that these cells were almost absent in the epidermis overlying lepromatous lesions. Objective: To investigate a possible relationship between the number of Langerhans cells and the histopathologic spectrum of lesions in patients with leprosy. Methods: An immunohistochemical staining for S100 prot...
متن کاملLangerhans cells differentiation: a three-act play.
Langerhans cells are the dendritic cells typical of stratified squamous epithelia and enjoy an intermediate state of differentiation as dendritic cells, since they are very efficient in uptaking and processing antigens but poor in presenting them to lymphocytes. These cells, and other dendritic cells as well, differentiate from bone marrow precursors, with circulating monocytes as intermediates...
متن کاملThe Thy-1-bearing cell of murine epidermis. A distinctive leukocyte perhaps related to natural killer cells
Bone marrow-derived leukocytes of murine epidermis can express two phenotypes: typical Langerhans cells, which are Ia+ and Thy-1-, and a recently discovered second population that is Thy-1+ and Ia-. To verify that these phenotypes are expressed by two different cell types, and to help understand their lineage and function, we have studied morphology and reactivity with a large panel of antibodi...
